What a wonderful story! Thank you for curating this exceptional, heartwarming, memorable, and helpful story. Congratulations, Yana. I am so proud of her. I will follow her wise advice. I wish I knew so much when I was at her age. But my good friend Dr Bronce Rice said you can teach tricks to old dogs so I remain optimistic.
Thank you for your inspiring words and great support, Dr Broadly. Yes as a cognitive scientist, I know that we can learn at any age thanks to neurogenesis and neuroplasticity. So Dr Bronce Rice is spot on in the wise remark.
I loved this first story, Dr Yildiz. Yana wrote it so beautifully from the heart. Her advice is solid. I have been following Yana for a while on Medium and now on Substack and always gain new ideas from her stories. She knows how to make her readers happy. I received several nominations and will send them to you. They are all excellent and written from experience. This publication gives me a lot of hope. Thank you for leading, educating, and inspiring us. I wish Yana more success 🌹
Some solid advice. Great way to start off the pub, Dr M! Reach for the stars and follow this path. So much more valuable and useful than all the clickbait “How I made $10K in a month” rubbish.
I can trust you both to deliver the goods.
As an aside, I found in Medium that writing a newsletter or blog can be rewarding but the real money came from raising awareness about other products. Books, courses, systems. Talk about good and useful things that real people can use, and the interested few will buy them and thank you.
Every writer I know keeps a blog and an involved community who are interested in their books and stories. Not everyone will buy the book, and let’s face it, Amazon doesn’t give you a truckload of coverage, but engage with the best prospects, deliver on the content, and the satisfied customers will tell their friends.
Thanks, Yana! You've given me a few ideas on my own next steps.
Thank you for your valuable feedback, Britni. Your point about the additional value reaching the real buyers of products and services of creators is a critical nuance many writers overlook. I call them intangible benefits, but they can be tangible in the long term. It is not exclusive to Substack, as I also had this benefit on Medium. Although my content barely earned any tangible income on Medium, it helped me find an audience that would not be possible to find in other ways. Now, Substack is making it even easier because, through direct access, we can deepen our relationships. Yes, Yana has a methodical approach, and many writers can emulate her system. Therefore, I used it as a great sample. I appreciate your support of this new initiative and would love to curate a story from you, as you also have a unique approach to your craft.
I'll be hard-pressed to match the excellence of the first story here. I’d be like the comic relief after a TED talk!
I’ll put some thought into something that’s important to me and might gain some interest. Just give me a bit of time; everything here in the cottage is quite up in the air!
Mehmet- Some great lessons here. The best one that I like is the diversion from the focus of virality as it pertains to conversion. Something most probably forget fairly easily. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, -Thalia
You make it sound so easy! Wel, a lot of work. but it sounds clear and achievable. I m ready for a breakthrough. My 2 books never really got off the ground, and even though I ve written a blog since 2008, I ve never figured out how to monetize my writing in any significant way. Look forward to learning more from you and this publication. Thanks! Kim
Wow. THAT'S A huge journey that you went on! Congratulations! going to put more effort into writing 3x a week. No pay wall yet. I need to figure out first how to do that. And I think I might even have to pay money to create a paywall, i'm not sure. I think i need to get Stripe figured out first and have that all done before I even create any paid subscriptions. Probably a good place to start is be consistent with free content. And the tides are changing with every freaking outer planet into different signs. I need to become a master communicator but not only with my typing but with my mouth as well. That means I need to change my expectations. Around people & change how I view they think of me. And my expectations are they don't like me,.... then that's what i'm going to get! This feels strange, yet I welcome it. Bring on the challenge. I want people to know what I really think and what I really feel, and it's time that I really know that what I have to say- matters. Right now at $450 net MAX per week Unemployment benefits, CA, i can't afford to do any paywall or anything like that. I don't have extra income. Oh. I do get $60 a month for gasoline & maybe $60 a month for Part Of my verizon bill. But I don't make $150 a week from astrology /tarot readings. My friends aren't even coming to me for tarot readings. They must think I'm not serious. I don't know, but the thing is I need to take myself seriously. I start today and I'll find a topic and I'll write about it.

Wonderful story! It is exceptional from every angle. Many thanks to you Dr Yildiz and Yana for inspiring and educating us.

Hi Thailia, thank you for your valuable and insightful feedback. Best wishes on your journey.

HI Kim, thank you for your valuable feedback. Nothing about writing or marketing is easy, but they are simple if you understand the principles. Yes, they require a lot of work, like any business or profession. I can relate to your point about monetizing our writing. I used to struggle with it. But I found viable ways, and now I am passing them on to others. I created a book club for authors and avid readers on Substack, and soon we will start supporting them. I wrote a story about it, which might give you some insights: https://medium.com/illumination/why-i-created-illumination-book-club-on-substack-380b6b09c6aa If you don't have landing pages, you might check out this story and contact me so I can help you create at least one: https://medium.com/technical-excellence/whats-a-landing-page-and-why-freelancers-startups-book-authors-need-many-78b7df7ecd64
Thanks so much. I ll check it out!
Yana is amazing. She deserves her success. Thank you for featuring her 💕

Hi Sandra, thank you for sharing your valuable thoughts. I wish you the best in your writing journey.
A great story of commitment which equals consistency, which equals success.
Thank you for your valuable feedback, Kathleen. I wish you the best in your journey.
thank you, Dr. Yildiz 🙏
You are an inspiration! I signed up for ChatGPT for Notes, but don't know how to access it. Did I accidentally delete an email?
